William "Joe" Wood
Age 82, of Minerva, died Friday, June 13, 2014 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born May 21, 1932 in Martin, TN to Kelly and Annie (True) Wood. He retired from Goodyear in Akron where he had worked for 38 years and was owner of Woodhaven Farm. He was a Corporal in the US Army serving in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He is a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Rose (Carr) Wood, daughter, Cindy Wood of Canton, 3 sons, Larry (Cindy) Wood of Carrollton, Ron (Lori) Wood of Carrollton and Doug (Kathryn) Wood of Johnstown, OH, 6 grandchildren and one great grandson. He is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Katherine Matheny and Mary Hatcher and 4 brothers, Hubert McClain, Adrian McClain, John Frield and Nolan McClain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Pastor Duane K. Garner officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery near Augusta. Calling hours will be Monday 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc.
