Wilbert E. Dexter

89, of Canton, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at Aultman Hospital. Wilbert was born January 20, 1928 in Canton to the late John and Lula (Adkins) Dexter. He married his beloved wife Marilyn on July 30, 1950 and had five children. He worked at Republic Steel in Canton and retired after 45 years of service. He was also an active member of the Canton Baptist Temple and drove the church bus for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII where he served with the Seabees. Hobbies included fishing with his buddies, woodworking, and doing metal crafts.

Wilbert is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn (Bell) Dexter who died in 1997; sister, Wilma Yorty; and brothers Gaylord, Ernie and George Dexter. He is survived by his children, Michael (Jennifer) Dexter of Linwood, NC, Christine (Thomas) Smith of Tippecanoe, Steven (Debbie) Dexter of Canton, Tracy (Mary) Dexter of Massillon and Dana Dexter of Canton; brother, John Dexter of Canton; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be Thursday 6-8 pm in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Friday.
