Steve Houghtell, born November 30th, 1949, passed away in his Minerva home, Monday, August 10th, 2015. He was one of four children born in Toledo, Ohio to the late Charles and Anne (Seis) Houghtell. After graduating high school, Steve proudly joined the US Army and served in Vietnam (SP5). After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Toledo where he met his loving wife and soulmate Barbara (Pakulski) Houghtell, married March 22, 1975. While Steve made a living as a heavy duty parts salesman, his real passion was working with his hands as a talented precision craftsman. He spent his life providing for his wife, children, and grandchildren, often playing the role of the family handyman, providing food from a seasonal hunt, and volunteering within the local community. After moving to their dream home, in Minerva, OH, Steve spent his final years as an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity on the 'Thursday Crew' and tending to his new land.
Steve is survived by his daughter Kathy (Matt) Abramowski of Lowellville, OH, his son James (Ashley) Houghtell of Columbus, IN, his three sisters Carolyn Urbanowicz of Walbridge, OH, Chris (Jim) Jennings of Temperance, MI, Mary (Kevin) Weizbenski of Toledo, OH, and two grandchildren, Hannah and Gabriella Abramowski. He is preceded in death by a brother Jerry Houghtell.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 am in Christ Memorial Church in Robertsville, OH. Burial with full military honors will be in Liberty Cemetery with a luncheon at Christ Memorial to follow. Calling hours will be Friday 5pm-8pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home (330-868-4900) in Minerva. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 'Habitat House Build in memory of Steve' and send to the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home 206 East Lincoln Way, Minerva, OH 44657.
