Shirley Witherspoon (Grimes)
age 93, formerly of Guilford Lake, went home to be with the Lord on Sat., March 26, 2022.
She was born to Ralph and Francis Grimes of Homeworth, Ohio on Jan. 8 th 1929. She attended Alliance High School where she was active in Fall Varieties dance shows. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Robert Witherspoon on Dec. 8 th 1945. Together they raised a family and pursued their dreams. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, card clubs, Garden club, collecting antiques, animals, trips to the hair/nail salon, and church groups at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva Ohio. She liked to entertain and was a gracious hostess. She taught aerobics classes as well as was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She loved the beach, ocean, lakes and the sun and passed the love of those places on to her family. She was a very active parent and grandparent, involved with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports teams, band, choir, cheerleading, PTO, room parent, church groups and supported any ventures that her children, their spouses, and grandchildren did even into adulthood. She and her husband were very blessed with wonderful family, in laws, friends and neighbors at all stages and locations in their lives.
She is survived by her son Charles (Cathy) Witherspoon of Canton, Ga., her daughter Lynette (Jeff) Church of Alliance, Ohio. Six grandchildren, Robert (Kristine) Witherspoon of Pine Lake, Ga, Seth (Justine) Witherspoon of Buena Vista, CO, Amanda (Dan) Hosterman of Smryna GA., Ashley Waefler of Canton, GA, Tyler Church of Alliance, Ohio, Anthony Church of Alliance, Ohio. Five great grandchildren, Chloe and Henry Witherspoon, Gavin and Miles Hosterman and Matthew Saenger. She is also survived by two nephews, a niece and two sister-in-laws.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Witherspoon, her daughter Sue Waefler, son-in-law Douglas Waefler, son Randy Witherspoon, two sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws.
The family wishes to thank Alliance/Aultman Hospital, Alliance Wound Care Center, Dr. Barr, McCrea Manor staff, Stone Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care staff, Alliance/Aultman Hospice, visiting nurses and in home caregivers.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 noon in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minerva with Pastor Robert Linsz and Pastor Jon Truax officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.
