Sheldon "Shorty" Stockum, age 93, of Minerva, died Monday, July 18, 2016 in Aultman Hospital. He was born Aug. 25, 1922 in Coshocton, OH to Russell and Alice (Weston) Stockum. He retired as a welder from Diebold where he worked for 38 years, was a US Army veteran of WWII where he served in the 44th Infantry, member of the American Legion Post #357, Carrollton VFW Post #3301, the Carroll County Historical Society, and volunteered at the Algonquin Mill Festival. He was also a member of the Coshocton Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Lutz) Stockum who died Apr. 16, 1957; 2 daughters, Marilyn Becker and Karilynn Miller; 2 sons, R.C. Miller and Russell "Rusty" Stockum; a sister, Nondis Yoder; 2 brothers, Solomon and Lowell Stockum; and 2 grandsons.
He is survived by 3 daughters, JoAnn (Bob) Kohl of Minerva, Janice (Lynn) Davis of Minerva, Jeanette (Dale) Maxwell of Greer, SC; a son, David (Linda) Miller of Minerva; a daughter-in-law, Pat Miller of Minerva; 2 sisters, Lera Steele of Coshocton and Jemima Warren of Springfield; a brother Enos Stockum of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services with full military honors will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Minerva United Methodist Church with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating.
