Ronald Jason Border
Age 74, of Minerva, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 5, 2023, following an extended illness. Ronald was born March 1, 1948 in Tiffin, to Donald Jason and Emma Mae (Webster) Border (both deceased). Survivors include Ruth Elaine Border, whom he married May 20, 1972, daughter of Leonard (deceased) and Amanda (Sommers) Overholt. Also surviving are their children: Erika Ivana (Thomas) McGrath; Ronald Jason II, (Christina Gingerich) Border; Nathan David (Ruth Kensinger) Border; and Sarah Catherine (Anthony) Miller, along with 15 grandchildren: Matthew, Rachel, Joshua, and Eizabeth McGrath, Austin, Cambria, and Shania Border; Adrianna, Lani, Thaddeus, and Katriel Border; Catie, Jennifer, Trevor, and Nicholas Miller. All were prayed for every night. Ron is survived by his brother Randy and Connie Border, twin sisters, Cyndy Magruder (Dennis deceased) and Linda Moore (Jim, deceased).
Originally trained as a linguist and propaganda analyst, Ronald studied at Columbian High School and Heidelberg University in Tiffin, the Defense Language Institute, the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies in Monterey, CA, the Hoover Institution of War, Revolution, and Peace in San Fransisco, CA, Heidelberg University in Heidelberg, Germany, and the Freie University in Berlin, Germany. Ronald worked for the Army Security Agency and the National Security Agency before joining the business world, where he held various sales and management positions for the Alliance Wall Corporation in Alliance, OH and Atlanta, Ga, the Salem China Company in Salem, OH, SSP Fittings Corporation in Twinsburg, and Schrock's Cabinets in Walnut Creek. Ron was very active in the Beachy (Amish-Mennonite) Church. He has been widely used among the churches as a minister, evangelist, and Bible conference speaker. His whole family had the great privilege in the mid-1980's to serve with friends and mentors, James and Ruth Yoder and their family, as missionaries to t he Alsace area in France.
In addition to preaching ministries, Ron has been active in editorial work for many years. He was a contributing writer for the Calvary Messenger. He worked as an editor for "The Christian Family" magazine for several years. He served as editor for the Amish-Mennonite Publications for 30 years. He was editor for "The Anabaptist Pulpit" (a collection of his printed sermons) and has more recently been for seven years as the editor of "The Shepherd's Heart", a weekly column in one or our local newspapers. He has written numerous articles, editorials, and booklets on behalf of Christ's Kingdom.
Calling hours will at the Hartville Conservative Mennonite Church on Sunday, January 8 th , 2023 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, January 9 th 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Final resting place will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Hartville with Mark Wagler officiating.
