Richard Henderson Jr.
Age 88, of Amsterdam, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 in Aultman Hospital. He was born March 7, 1928 in Waynesburg to Richard and Rosie (Thomas) Henderson Sr. He was a bricklayer and retired from Structural Stoneware in Minerva and had worked for Whitacre Greer. He was the owner of Henderson Used Furniture and Appliance in Carrollton. He is a member of the Asbury Chapel AME in Waynesburg where he sang in the choir and he sang with the Chapel Aires in Waynesburg and the Southland Singers in Canton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Hodge) Henderson who died in 2014, son, James Henderson, stepdaughter, Irene Henderson, 7 brothers, Vernon, Elmer, Henry Lester, Russell, George, Walt and Roy Henderson, 4 sisters, Vera Kelly, Hazel Fullbright, Marybelle Henderson and Thelma Henderson. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Henderson of Amtersdam, son, Chester Henderson of WA, brother Donald Henderson of Jacksonville, FL, 9 grandchildren, Brandon (Jennifer) Henderson-Adams, Lincoln (Dorothy) Henderson-Adams, Kayleigh and Skyler Henderson, Shawn Henderson, Richard Henderson III, Shari (Russ) Bonds, Amanda (Chris) Neal and Nathan (Alisha) Adams, 15 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Pauline Adams and Patricia Henderson.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in the Asbury Chapel AME in Waynesburg with Rev. Vicky Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10-11 am Tuesday prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
