Kenneth "Pete" Grimes, age 90, of Minerva, died Wed., Jan. 11, 2012 in Minerva Eldercare. He was born Nov. 15, 1921 in Minerva to Kenneth and Edna (Morehead) Grimes. He retired from Republic Steel and worked for many years with Grimes Painting. He was a US Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII having served in Italy, a lifetime member of VFW Post #4120 in Minerva, a lifetime member of the Stark County Baseball Assoc., and a member of the Minerva Eagles. He was inducted to the Canton Sports Hall of Fame as a player and official. He officiated basketball, baseball and football in the area for many years. He was also a member of the Minerva First Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alma (Leggett) Grimes; 2 sisters, Betty Weaver and Mildred Johnson; and a brother, Richard Grimes.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonita (Robert) Parenti of Uniontown; a sister, Jean Ferguson of Alliance; 2 brothers, Gerald (Donna) Grimes of Minerva and Joe (Shirley) Grimes of Minerva; 2 granddaughters, Ashley (Greg) Mammone of Canton and Amber Parenti of Daytona Beach, FL; and a greatgrandson, Lucas Mammone.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Ralph Norman and Mr. Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home
