Patsy Ann Groves
Age 84, of Minerva, a beloved mother, peacefully passed away at her home Saturday, July 25, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 29, 1942 in Carrollton to Grover and Mary (Roberts) Smith. Pat lived a life rich with memories and dedication to her loved ones. Pat married Carl Groves on March 3, 1961. Carl passed away January 3, 2011, they would have been married for 50 years on March 3, 2011.
Pat was from a large family. They all preceded her in death, even her in-laws, John and Katherine (Bunner) Groves, 7 sisters, Nellie (Roland) Robinson, Faye Smith, Hilda (Tux) Giannelli, Betty (Charles) Nigro, Gloria (Raymond) Lashley, Mary (Donald) Pallaye, Lynne (McClure) (Richard) Sleighter and 6 brothers, Bill Smith, Dewey (Lucille) Smith, Dale Smith, Dwight Smith, Laurence (Ulene) Smith and Paul (Glena) Smith.
Pat went to school in New Harrisburg and Carrollton and lived all of her married life in Minerva. She worked for Russell’s Jeweler’s, Fisher’s Big Wheel and the Stafford Realty. When she worked for the Big Wheel, she was the shoe department manager and then was promoted to District Manager, where she was in charge of 10-14 stores that she supervised. She retired after 23 years with the Big Wheel and then trained at Stafford Realty until she had to stop to take care of her husband before he passed away. Pat loved to read, garden, mow, watch NASCAR, camp, Ohio State Football and if you knew her, she loved to suntan. She was a member of the Minerva JC’s, Minerva Bantam Football, and Minerva Football Mother’s Club and then she helped her daughter with her flowers. Pat loved to arrange flowers and made all of the bows. (We called her “The Bow Maker”)
Above all, Pat took the greatest pride in her family. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Groves, son, John Groves. She adored immensely, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will deeply miss her.
A special thanks to these ladies that have become a part of our family, Niki Baker, Angie Price, Claudie Reiboldt, Naomi Detweiler, Kathy Williams and many others for taking such good care of Pat. We don’t know what we would have done without them.
Patsy Groves will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her warm heart, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. Her legacy will endure within the cherished memories held by her family and friends and she will be missed beyond measure.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Minerva Methodist Church with Rev. Peggy Garner officiating. Burial will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Thursday 6:00-8:00 pm in the Minerva Methodist Church. Luncheon will follow at the church.
