Obituary

Norman "Norm" Mitchell

a lifelong resident of Minerva, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 31, 1946, in Minerva, Norm was the son of Chester and Dorothy (Anthony) Mitchell. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1964 and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Norm began a 32-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, working at the Canton Post Office from 1970 to 1978 and in East Canton from 1978 to 1986. He later became the Postmaster of East Rochester, a role he held for 16 years until his retirement in 2002.

Retirement didn't slow Norm down. Instead, it led him to one of his greatest joys working at Great Trail Golf Course. For 22 years, he found happiness on the greens, spending time with friends, sharing laughs, and staying close to the game he loved so much.

He was known for his deep love of golf, Ohio State football, vacations, and golf trips. He was a proud member of the Minerva VFW Post #4120, the Louisville Eagles Aerie #2374, and the Malvern American Legion Post #375. He also enjoyed relaxing with sports on TV and making his weekly bets.

More than anything, Norm was a family man. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving "Papa," and a loyal friend. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandsons, Karson and Keenan, who were the light of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester (1977) and Dorothy (2003) Mitchell, and his brother, Gordon Mitchell (2003).

Norm is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Terry (Howell) Mitchell; daughters, Wendy (Dave) Morvatz and Ashley (Jason) Lutz; grandsons, Karson and Keenan Lutz; his brother, Wade Mitchell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Victor and Jennifer Kidder; brother-in-law, Randy Graham; nieces; and special friends who were like family.

Norm Mitchell lived a life full of purpose, humor, and love. His legacy will carry on in every story shared, every round of golf played, and every Buckeye football game watched in his honor.

A celebration of Norm's life was held while he was still with us. A rare and beautiful opportunity for friends and family to share memories, and honor the man we all loved, together. Those wishing to send condolences may sign the online register at www.gotschallfuneralhome.com.
