Michael Shaffer Jr.

Age 92, of Minerva, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2022 in Aultman Alliance Hospital. He was born March 27, 1929 in Canton to Michael Shaffer Sr. and Erma (Middaugh) (Shaffer) Quillen. A brick layer by trade, he began his career with Republic Steel and retired from LTV Steel.  He is a founding member of the Grace Brethren Church in Minerva. He is one of the oldest living member of Pike Grange #1669 in East Sparta where he has been a member for 75 years.  He is a member of the Bricklayer's Union Local #6 in Canton.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Davenport) Shaffer who died in 2011 and a brother, Ronnie Shaffer. He is survived by 2 sons, Michael Shaffer of Paris and Vicki Shaffer of New Hampshire, Bruce (Michele) Shaffer of Minerva, 2 sisters, Shirley Strader of Navarre, Beverly Michel of Canton, 2 brothers, Harold (Karen) Shaffer of Canton South, Glen Shaffer of East Sparta, 2 brothers-in-law and their wives, Jesse (Katherine) Davenport of FL, Tom (Donna) Davenport of Louisville, 6 grandchildren, Tami (John) Rascona, Valerie (Tom) Perry, Raelyn (Brian) Coates, Arryn (Billy) Slutz, Adam (Haley) Shaffer, Andrew (Dawn) Shaffer and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Virginia Birks officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.  Calling hours will be one hour prior to services from 11-12 on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Minerva Community Meals.
