Melvin A. Hafner

Age 82, of Minerva, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025. He was born July 16, 1942, in Canton to Alvin and Pearl (Nussbaum) Hafner.

Mel served in the US Army and is a Vietnam veteran.  He was a proud member of the Minerva VFW Post #4120. Mel retired from PCC Airfoils after over 40 years as a machinist and truck driver.

Mel loved his family and friends, classic cars, animals, and his country.   He and his life-long friends played music together as the Gander Flats, where he played the bass guitar.  Mel was always quick with a joke and a smile and could fix anything his family broke. He will be greatly missed.

Mel is survived by his wife, Barbara (Bowlin) Hafner whom he married Sept. 18, 1970, 3 daughters, Kimberly Heestand of Cincinnati, Jill (Bob) Griffith of Grove City, Jennifer (David) Wallace of Blythewood, SC, sister, Susan (Sharlene McDaniel) Hafner of Auburn, AL, brother, Mark Hafner of Richville, 6 grandchildren; Katelane (Ahren) Kirschner, Morgan Wallace, Andrew (Blaire) Wallace, Blake Griffith, Lauren Griffith and Bennett Griffith, and 2 great grandchildren; Ellery and Opal.

Per his wishes, there will not be formal services. The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Minerva Rehabilitation and Nursing Center's activity fund.
