Mary Jane Thurin

Age 95, of Minerva, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 16, 2023 in the Arbors of Minerva surrounded by her family after a long battle with dementia.  She was born Aug. 7, 1928 in Canton to James and Martha (Tomaseck) Kennedy. She was a secretary at the family furniture business, Thurin's Home Furnishings. She graduated from Lehman High School and attended Bowling Green University and Bernau College.  She is a 51 year member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Malvern where she was the former President of the Catholic Women's Club.  She is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Alumni, Junior League of Canton, Women's Committee for the Canton Civic Opera and former President of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Louis Thurin whom she married Aug. 19, 1950, 5 children, Mary Ann Thurin of Canton, Mark (Jody) Thurin of Louisville, Bruce Thurin of Autin, TX, Barbara (Kevin) Casper of Florence, Sc, Martha (David) Gotschall of Paris, 11 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Slack, Matthew (Liz) Thurin, Nicholas  (Erin) Gotschall, Joseph (Morgen) Gotschall, Alex Gotschall, Jessica (Matt) Sutkowski, Sarah (David) Naletelich, Macaira (Robert) Herford, Kyle, Molly and Anna Thurin, 16 great grandchildren, Cailor, Maddox, Cricket, Grant, Cole, Wren, Quinn, Daisy, Oliver, Theo, Luke, Sam, Claire, Ava, Adaline and Joseph. She is preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Teater, brother, James Kennedy and a grandson, Benjamin Gotschall.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Francis Catholic Church in Malvern with Fr. Victor Cinson as celebrant.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Canton.  Calling hours will be oned hour prior to services at the church from 10 am to 11 am.  The family would like to thank the staff of the Arbors of Minerva as well as Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care during this difficult time.  Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Catholic Church Building Fund.
