Mary Civita (Casale) Ostarchvic

age 102, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away at Lifecare Center in New Port Richey, Florida on August 13, 2024 following a short illness.

Mary was born in San Giovanni lncarico, Province of Frozinone, Italy on January 29, 1922. The daughter of the late Ned and Susan Casale, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph P. Ostarchvic, two sisters, Adele Futty and Maria DeSavage, brother Joseph A. Casale, and nephew Tom Casale.

She came to America at the age of eight on May 15, 1930, on the SS Conte Bianca Mano with her family. Arriving June 9, 1930, she was processed through the Port of New York on Ellis Island. Initially, she stayed in Providence R. I., but eventually traveled to Ohio and settled in Malvern on June 1, 1932. She met and married Joseph P. Ostarchvic on June 1, 1943.

She lived most of her life in Malvern, Ohio, where she was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Woman's Club. She enjoyed canning and volunteer work and in her later years she enjoyed working in the bakery at Kishman's IGA. She loved to knit and crochet sweaters, gloves, hats, and afghans which she made for every member of her large family. Her favorite pastime was praying the rosary and saying prayers for all her family members. On July 15, 1998, she moved to New Port Richey, Florida, where she was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She loved to swim and enjoyed all the club house activities at her new residence in the Wilds Condo Association. She moved to the Lifecare Nursing Facility on April 3, 2018 in New Port Richey, Florida.

She is survived by three children, Robert (Kitty) Ostarchvic of Minerva, Ohio, son William (Cathy) Ostarchvic of Dublin,Ohio and daughter Ann (Sam) Bake of New Port Richey, Florida. Grandchildren include Brian, Tabitha, Jamie, Mark and Andrea. Great grandchildren include Devon, Kelcey, Hunter, Alexis, Lillian, Marin, Miles, Harper, Mae, Grady, Avery, and Lorelei and three great-great grandchildren Liam, Benson, and Alayna. She also leaves nephew, Chris (Christine) Casale, Ned (Pam) Casale, Tyra (Craig) Casale Mone and many other nieces and nephews. She was known and loved by many caring friends.

Friends can pay their respects one hour before mass begins for this amazing woman that was so greatly loved.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Church in Malvern, OH on September 30, 2024 at 10:30 am with Fr. Victor Cinson as celebrant. Burial will be by her husband in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following in the church hall.  Contributions may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Church Building Fund.
