Mary Ellen Clark
Age 92, of Doylestown and formerly Minerva, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2021. She was born Dec. 5, 1928 in Kensington to Charles and Blanche (Walter) Merrick. She graduated from Minerva High School in the Class of 1945 at salutatorian. Received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1949 and a Master of Music Degree from the University of Kentucky in 1956. She taught private piano lessons all her life and also taught music in the public schools of Alabama, Kentucky, and Ohio, retiring from United Local in Hanoverton. For many years she lived in Minerva where she was a member of the Minerva United Methodist Church serving as president of the United Methodist Women and many other committees. While there she organized and directed three English Handbell Choirs. She moved to Doylestown in 2001 and transferred to the Doylestown United Methodist Church where she continued her music by directing the Children's Bell Choir.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Sheldon Clark who died in 2012, three sisters, Gladys Armstrong, Ida Jane Merrick, Bessie McCullough, and four brothers, Manson, Marion, William and Robert Merrick and a grandson, Jason Clark. She is survived by a daughter, Wilma (Tom) Benedict of Doylestown, two sons, Paul (Connie) Clark of Canton, Jeffrey Clark of Doyleston, five, grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Skala of Doyleston, Rachel Benedict of Wadsworth, Bryan Benedict of Perrysburg, Amanda (Jes) Still of North Carolina, Philip (Heather) Clark of Doylestown, five great grandchildren, twins, Elianna and Grayson Skala, Jacob Skala, Evan Clark, Clara Still and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Dr. Carolyn Berry and Rev. Harold Barber officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doylestown United Methodist Church c/o the music program.
