Margaret R. Coy, Age 78, of Carrollton, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 in Aultman's Compassionate Care. She was born Aug. 10, 1937 in Canton to C. M. and Irene (Armstrong) Schandel. She was an elementary schoolteacher for 38 years having worked at Robertsville Elementary for Minerva Local, Palmyra, New York and retired from the Brown Local School District. She graduated from Malvern High School in 1955, received her teaching degree from Baldwin Wallace, Bachelors in education from Mount Union and her Master's in education from Franciscan University of Steubenville. She is a lifetime member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she was the organist, pianist, and choir director for many years. She is a lifetime member of the Carroll County Historical Society and a member of the Eastern Star in New York, the Carroll County Retired Teachers Assoc., the Ohio State Retired Teacher's Assoc., and the Carroll County Farm Bureau.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Coy, who died in 1995; brother, David Schandel; and granddaughter, Megan McCall.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Ken) McCall of Canton; son, Michael Coy of Carrollton; special friend, Karla Houyouse of Carrollton; 2 grandsons, Neil and William McCall; sisters-in-law, Fran Schandel of Lawrenceville, GA; Norma Bechtel of East Canton; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Franklin Coy, DVM of Chagrin Falls.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. John Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday 6-8 pm at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care Center or the Carroll County Animal Protection League.
