IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maggie
Base
July 18, 1927 – September 12, 2017
Maggie Base
Maggie Koehn Base was born to Edward and Ida Schmidt Koehn on July 18, 1927 in Isabella, OK. She passed away on September 12, 2017 at the age of 90, at Danbury Senior Living, Alliance, Ohio. At the age of 3 months Maggie together with her parents and family, moved by train to Camp 45, Mexico. There she spent her childhood years. In later years, she often spoke of the memories made while living in Mexico. At the age of 14 she was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on Feb. 24,1941 by Minister Henry Ensz. The church was precious to her. Mom was faithful to these vows.
At the age of 21, Maggie together with one of her sisters, returned to the States. On August 21,1949, Maggie was married to Cecil Base at Lone Tree, KS by Minister Frank Unruh. They lived at Galva, KS for 3 years then moved to Missouri in 1952 where they began to farm. They lived in various locations until 1962, when they moved to a farm they purchased near Hume, MO where they raised their family and farmed. To this union were born two children. In 2006 they retired from the farm and moved into Rich Hill. They enjoyed their retirement years there. Dad was called home in 2011. They shared nearly 63 years together.
Mom moved to Homeworth, Ohio in 2013 to be near her daughter. Mom spent many hours sewing quilt tops and helping where she could. She enjoyed being with people, and making new friends. We are thankful Mom left us with an assurance of salvation as she saw her time to depart drawing near.
She is survived by her son, Donald and Beverly, of Grant, AL, and daughter, Arlene and Larry Unruh of Homeworth, OH; seven grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; four sisters: Pauline Jantzen, Glenn, CA, Esther Unruh, and Hanna Koehn both of Moundridge, KS. Eva and Benton Smith, Nevada, MO; one brother, Henry and Gladys Koehn, Okolona, MS; one brother-in-law, Jonas and Karen Base, McPherson, KS; two sisters-in-law Alice Koehn, of Rich Hill, MO, and Linda Davis, Springdale, AR. Preceding her in death were her husband, Cecil, her parents, 3 sisters, 5 brothers-in-law, and 1 brother.
Funeral services were held at the Bethany Mennonite Church, Rich Hill, MO. Burial was in the adjoining graveyard.
