Lucille K. Long, age 78, of Minerva, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in her home following an extended illness. She was born Apr. 18, 1933 in Helvetia, WV to Clay and Anne Belle (Karlen) Morrison. She was a secretary in the Metallurgy Dept. of Babcock and Wilcox, a 1951 graduate of Minerva High School, a member and past Matron of the OES #553 in Homeworth, and Esther Chapter #120 in Minerva, was a Homeworth Honey, having entertained locally with songs and humor. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in New Franklin where she was the Church Secretary for 32 years, served on the Church Council, was a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir and was a member of the church Women's club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Long who died June 23, 2002 and a brother Bernard Morrison.
She is survived by a son, William (Gail) Long of Minerva; a sister, Grace Morrison of Minerva; 3 brothers David (Arlene) Morrison of Paris, Ray (Ann) Morrison of Canton, Gene ( Lauren "Dolly") Morrison of Minerva, 5 grandchildren, Ryan and O'Neal Long, Beverly (Michael) Koty, Melissa (Carl) Merriman, Mark (Jen) Merriman; 5 great grandchildren, Blade, Kaytlin, Michael, Gage and Madison, and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church in New Franklin with Pastor Joe Ertl and Alliance Hospice Chaplain, Larry Karlen officiating. Burial will be in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva.
