Linda M. Archer
Age 75, of Malvern, entered her hard-earned Heavenly rest on Thursday, October 8, 2026. She was born June 29, 1951 in Salem, the youngest child of farming entrepreneurs Carl and Hazel (John) Herron.
Linda graduated from United Local High School and quickly found her passion in nursing, completing her R.N. degree at the Akron City School of Nursing. Her husband, John, often said she had healing powers in her touch. The majority of Linda’s career was spent as the Director of Nursing in local long-term care facilities. Growing up on the farm instilled her with an exceptional work ethic, resulting in an unwavering dedication to the staff and residents under her supervision.
Linda was well-known in her profession for a soft-yet-unwavering style of leadership, always modeling the adage, “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” Her radiant smile and gentle demeanor left everyone eager to meet her high standards. Upon her retirement in 2016, she received the prestigious Karl Weninger Principle Award, recognizing four core values: Dedication, Responsiveness, Performance, and Compassion.
Linda married John in 1973, and they shared many adventures together, including raising two children: David (Rebecca) Archer of Malvern and Christina (Michael) Whitlock of Muncie, IN. As a mother, Linda continued to model service, care, and responsibility. Famously always on the phone dealing with the latest work crisis, she also decorated elaborate birthday cakes, sewed prize-winning Halloween costumes, and met the everyday needs of her family with love. Her children were raised to trust their intuition, to take responsibility for their own actions, and to value time with those they love.
One of her greatest joys was becoming “Nana” to six grandchildren: Jayden, Skye, David, Abigail, Ava, and Maggie. Each was precious to her in their own way.
Linda lived with Parkinson’s Disease for more than 20 years. After being widowed in 2010, her son, David, and his wife, Rebecca, assumed increasing responsibility for Linda’s care and well-being. It was a beautiful illustration of her legacy in action.
In addition to losing John, Linda was preceded in death by her three brothers, Wayne, Glen and David Herron.
Amid this crushing loss, her family is comforted by thoughts of these joyous Heavenly reunions.
A small graveside service will be held Thursday, October 15th at 1:00 p.m. in the Grandview Cemetery in Salem with Chaplain Brandon Kyer officiating. Those wishing to send condolences may sign the online register at www.gotschallfuneralhome.com.
