Leroy "Pete" Dunlap, age 85, of East Rochester, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 in his home. He was born Dec. 28, 1928 in Avon Park, FL to Charles and Lucy (Wyatt) Dunlap. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in Canton after 39 years of service. He had worked for Bartley Funeral Home and Ambulance for 15 years, Minerva Welding, Loudon Motors and was the former owner of the Minerva Texaco Station. He loved woodworking, golfing, tinkering, inventing and piloting his Cessna airplane. He was the former president of the Minerva Flying Assoc. and member of the UAW in Canton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, H. Joann (Simpson) Dunlap who died in 1999; 2 daughters, Debbie and Patty Dunlap; 4 sisters; a brother; and a great grandson. He is survived by a daughter, Sally (Ronald) Moore of Alliance; 2 sons, Jay (Tracy) Dunlap of Bayard and Hugh (Becky) Dunlap of Minerva; 2 sisters, Myrna Casper of New Franklin and Betty Loudon of N. Canton; 7 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.
Jay Dunlap will be having a celebration of life will be Sunday, Oct. 12 from 3-5 p.m. at Forest Lanes in Kensington. A graveside burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 13 in East Lawn Cemetery with a memorial luncheon to follow at the Minerva Senior Center from 12-2 p.m.where people can share their stories about Pete.
