MSgt. Lee E. Bettis, a ge 40, of Fort Sam Houston, TX, died Sat., March 29, 2014 in Texas from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born April 28, 1973 in Camp Lejeune, NC. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1991 and joined the US Army where he is currently a Combat Medic Instructor/Writer for the Department of Combat Medic Training at Fort Sam, Houston, TX. In over 22 years of service, he has had numerous assignments including serving 2 tours in Bosnia and 2 deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He is also a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church in Salem, OH. Lee was active with his children, having been a volunteer football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling coach.
He is survived by his wife, Laura (Elton) Bettis; parents, Jim and Jacki (Weikart) Reed of Alliance, OH; 2 sons, Caleb Bettis of Watertown, NY and Dalton Bettis of the home; brother, Lucas (Stacey) Bettis of East Rochester. OH; grandparents, LeRoy (Billie) Weikart of Minerva and Doris Bettis of Minerva, OH; Father-in-law, Harry Elton of East Rochester, OH; step brothers and sisters, Chris (Tricia) Reed of Hanoverton, OH, Terry (Kimmee) Reed of Minerva, OH, Kim (Bob) Howell of Minerva, OH, Elissa (Sean) Smith of Hilton Head, NC and a huge extended family that he loved with all his heart. He is preceded in death by a step brother, Brit Reed.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m., in the Locust Grove Baptist Church in Salem, OH, with Pastor Robert Noble officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
