Larry P. Bankert
Age 78, of Minerva, died Sat., Nov. 12, 2016 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center. He was born March 26, 1938 in Canton to the late Jack and Florence (Gill) Bankert. He is a police officer having worked for the Columbus Police Dept., Detective, Homicide Detective and K-9 unit officer for the Miami Police in Miami, FL, Chief Deputy for the Carroll County Sheriff's Dept., the Chief of Police for the Village of East Canton and currently was working security for United American Security at the new Carroll County power plant. He started the Carroll County Law Enforcement Academy and was the Academy Commander.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tammie (Hawk) Bankert whom he married Oct. 20, 1996, 5 children, Scott (Sandra) Bankert of Savannah, GA, Darcy (Joe) Phillips of Columbus, Paula (Ray) Flores of Pensacola, FL, Jodi (Dennis) Crawford of Columbus and Travis Webb of Minerva, brother, Norman "Lee" (Erin) Bankert of Canton, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by brother, John "Bill" Bankert.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. John Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wed. 2-4 & 6-9 pm in the funeral home.
