Joseph D. Keister
Age 86, of Minerva, passed away peacefully Monday, January 4, 2016 in Aultman Hospital due to heart complications. He died surrounded by his loving family. He was born Dec. 24, 1929 in Malvern to Dwight and Virginia (Brothers) Keister. He retired from the Village of Minerva where he was the superintendant of the water and sewer dept. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1947, and was a social member of the Minerva VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dora (Carter) Keister whom he married July 30, 1949, 7 children, Julie Hutchison, Joni (Warren) Stryffeler, Joseph A. Keister, Jan (Clark) Battista, Jake (Sharon) Keister, James Keister and Jaynie (Dave) Galay all of Minerva, 10 grandchildren, Lindsay (Dave) Rivera, Sloan Stryffeler, Ross (Jill) Hutchison, Carter (Jill) Battista, Ellis Battista, Kathryn, Audrey and Annie Keister, Savannah and Hunter Galay, 2 stepgrandchildren, Amie and Shanna First, 4 great grandchildren, Ruby Minerva and Rex Joseph Rivera, Ella and Paityn Hutchison. He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charles "Hutch" Hutchison.
Joe was an avid golfer, productive gardener, amazing cook and lover of nature. He was extremely generous and outgoing. Joe's vibrant personality affected all who knew him. His legacy continues through his family. His life's mission and final words were, "Always give more than you receive and remember the little man."
Joe will be greatly missed and forever loved.
A private service was held on January 6. A celebration of his life and scattering of ashes will be held at a later date. Contributions in his name may be given to the Minerva Community Meals or Minerva VFW Post #4120 for veteran's transportation.
