Joseph Knight Jr., age 86, of Minerva, died Tues., Nov. 5, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 29, 1926 in Toronto to Joseph and Ennid (Wright) Knight. He retired in 1985 from Babcock and Wilcox in Alliance where he had been a Maintenance Supervisor for 26 years. He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church and is a US Navy Veteran of WWII. He is a member of the American Legion Post #357 in Minerva and the United States LST Association. He served on the LST 670 and received a commendation for the Battle of Mindora in the Phillipines.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Swank) Knight who died in 1998; sister, Rosemary Ohler; and 5 brothers, Robert, James, Jerry, Harry and Glenn Knight. He is survived by 2 daughters, Patty Jo (Richard) King of Carrollton and Chris (David) Mikes of Minerva; 2 sisters, Phyllis Barker of Lafferty and Linda (Jay) Miller of Leesburg, FL, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sat. at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse and Hospice Assoc.
