John Joseph Sommers
Age 90, of Minerva, OH, passed on to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2011. He was born in Uniontown, OH on Jan. 7, 1921 to Henry and Clara (Schlabach) Sommers. On January 1, 1946 he married Katie Beachy, who survives. God granted them over 65 years of marriage. John was a member at Minerva Christian Fellowship, where he shared in fellowship with other believers.
One daughter, Miriam, preceded him in death October 27, 2008. The nine children surviving are: Joseph (Sharon) of Minerva, Mervin of N. Canton, Eli (Barbara) of Hiddenite, NC, Paul (Mary) of Baltic, Willis (Marlene) of Salisbury, PA, Martha Sommers of Minerva, Mary (Freeman) Byler of Windsor, Reuben (Miriam) of Salisbury, PA, and Marlene Sommers of Minerva. There are 41 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers: Willis (Mabel) Sommers of Plain City and Paul (Keturah) Sommers of Minerva, 2 sisters; Mary (Dan) Coblentz of Cincinnati, Iowa and Catherine (Abe) Troyer of Apple Creek.
Calling hours are Saturday July 23 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Minerva Christian Fellowship. Funeral services will be Sunday July 24th at 2:00 pm in the Minerva Christian Fellowship with John H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family treasures the memories of their father's love for God and his family. We look forward to a reunion in heaven.
