John H. Shirley, age 62, of Paris, died Wed. September 4, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born April 28, 1951 in Canton, OH to Ervin and Betty (Haney) Shirley. He retired as the street superintendent for the village of East Canton, was the former fire chief for Robertsville Fire Dept. from 1974-2002, a member of the Stark County Fire Chief's Assoc. and the Start County Firefighters Assoc. He was also a member of the Minerva Eagles Aerie #2199 in Minerva for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Norma (Butler) Shirley whom he married Nov. 22, 1969; a daughter, Shannon (Scott) Reed of Canton South; a son Daryl Shirley of Paris; 2 sisters, Connie (Jim) McCort of Malvern, Cindy (Clyde "Tiny") Ferguson of Alliance; 2 brothers, Ron (Nellie) Shirley of Minerva, Jim (Susie) Shirley of Robertsville; and 3 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Patricia Shirley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Jonathon Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home with Stark County Firefighter Memorial Services at 6:45pm.
