John D. Shatzer, Jr., age 73, of Canal Fulton, died Sat., Nov. 28, 2015 in University Hospital in Cleveland. He was born April 9, 1942 in Holloway, OH to John and Phyllis (Gordon) Shatzer, Sr. He retired after 28 years of service from Eastman Kodak where he was a manager. He graduated from Malvern High School in 1960 and is a member of the Trinity Gospel Temple in Canton. He is a US Navy Veteran having served in Vietnam as a quartermaster 3rd class and is a member of the DAV.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeannie (Wallace) Shatzer whom he married Nov. 5, 1966; 2 sons, John D. (Jennifer) Shatzer III of Wooster and Matthew (Kristina) Shatzer of Alliance; sister, Judy Scott of Minerva; 2 brothers, Ron (Lynnette) Shatzer of Minerva, Lonnie Shatzer of Minerva; and a granddaughter, Katie Shatzer.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Shatzer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Pastor Lisa Elliott officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Following cremation, burial will be in Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Heart Association.
