John T. Ocel
Age 91, of Mechanicstown, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 7, 1924 in Mingo Junction to John and Mary (Tokar) Ocel. He was a lifetime dairy farmer and had worked at Minerva Welding, Mullins in Salem and Newell Construction. He was a former director of the Carroll County Airport, former President of the Farmer's Exchange Board, Director of the Carroll County Soil Conservation Board, past President of the official Board of Herrington Bethel United Methodist Church where he had attended for over 50 years and the last founding member of the Augusta Fire Dept. He was a dealer for Clay Barn Equipment and a dealer for the Pioneer Seed Company.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elnora (Reid) Ocel whom he married Aug. 31, 1945, daughter, Darcy (Dick) Baker of New Harrisburg, 2 sons; Craig (Diane) Ocel of Hammondsville and Brad (Stephanie) Ocel of Mechanicstown, 6 grandchildren; Shawn, Joey, Josh and Jack Ocel, Kyle and Luke Baker and a great grandson, Thayne Ocel. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Lute and 7 brothers and sisters; Dorothy Kosko, Helen Brown, Mary Bludis, Ann McLeese, Pauline Mazzoni, Joe and Andy Ocel.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon in the Herrington Bethel United Methodist Church near Augusta with Rev. Mark Statler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice.
