Ed Haught
John "Ed" Haught, age 61, of Minerva, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 in Mercy Medical Center in Canton. He was born January 7, 1950 to the late Jack Haught and Phyllis (Daugherty) Haught of Malvern. He worked for 23 years at the Minerva Wax Paper and was a custodian for Minerva Local Schools. He was also a 1969 graduate of Minerva High School where he lettered in Football. Ed spent 46 years as a coach in Minerva having coached various sports including Little League Baseball, Minerva Little Lions Football, boys and girls youth basketball, Varsity Girls Softball, Varsity Girls Volleyball and Freshman Boys Basketball. He was president/officer in all leagues and even helped implement getting the sport fields at Bi-Centennial and surrounding parks. He enjoyed playing softball and even played on a team for the Minerva Wax Paper. In September of 2011 he will be inducted into the Minerva High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy (Wiley) Haught whom he married Mar. 26, 1977; a daughter, Hali Haught of Chicago, IL; 2 sons, Ryan (Sarrah) Haught of Washington, DC and Troy Haught of Lakewood, OH; 2 sisters, Sharon White of Malvern and Kathy Jo (Eric) Eddy of Minerva; 5 brothers, Richard Haught of Dayton, Larry (Betty) Haught of Minerva, Clyde Haught of Canton, Dave (Polly) Haught of Minerva, Steve (Brenda) Haught of Minerva and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Janet Haught.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Minerva First Christian Church with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 1:00 – 3:00 and 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Minerva Athletic Booster Club or to the Minerva First Christian Church.
