John (Jack) Harsh
Age 83, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017 in Minerva Eldercare. He was born Dec. 30, 1933 in Carrollton, to Karl "Nick" and Goldie (Gotschall) Harsh. He lived in the historic log cabin in Minerva, the birthplace of Minerva Ann Taylor since 1991. He worked for the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail RR for almost 30 years where he retired as a brakeman and conductor. He served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958. He attained the rank of airman first class A/1C at Tyndall Airforce Base, Panama City FL. He was a member of FOE Aerie #2199 in Minerva, and was former secretary for 10 years for BRT and UTU. He loved to play golf (not well), go fishing in Canada, go deer hunting in Pennsylvania, do crossword puzzles and went to Florida every winter for many years. He was also an avid Minerva High School Football Fan and a fun loving grandpa and great grandpa.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Julie (Richard) McLvain of Panama City, FL., Peggy Sue Singleton of Panama City, FL; 2 sons, Michael (Carol) Harsh of Panama City, FL, Stephen (Kathie) Harsh of Dothan, AL; 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Max and Dale Harsh
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home from noon to 2:00 pm.
