John R. Campbell

Age 72, of Waynesburg, Ohio passed away Monday, December 23, 2024, in the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. He was born June 18, 1952, in Canton, Ohio to Floyd and Helen (Hoopengarner) Campbell. He proudly served as a Police Officer for the Village of Minerva, advancing to the rank of Sergeant and taught at the Police Academy.  He graduated from Minerva High School in 1970, where he played football and advanced to the state wrestling tournament his senior year.  After High School he became involved in youth sports and served as a football coach and referee.  John competed in the International Police Olympics; Wrestling Division, where he won a silver medal in 1986 and captured gold in 1992. He was a member of the Minerva Lions Club.

John was a generous man with a boisterous laugh and an indomitable spirit.  He loved his family fiercely and had a real servants' heart.  He could often be found doing a home improvement project or fixing a family member's car. He was a skilled handyman and could build or fix just about anything.  He endured many health challenges over the years with a positive attitude and perseverance. His strong example, love and generous spirit left a profound impact on his family, and he will be greatly missed!

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth "Kay" (Moore) Campbell whom he married Sept. 17, 1971, son, Matt (Heather Ann) Campbell of Carrollton, daughter, Heather Kay Campbell of Waynesburg, sister, Sandra Collins of Minerva, 4 grandchildren; Katerina (Alex) Syrianoudis of Canfield, Micah Campbell (Alliah Weaver) of Carrollton, Kaylee Nichols of Waynesburg, Addison Nichols of Waynesburg and 5 great grandchildren; Emmitt, Lydia, Leonidas. Kiercelynn and Rose.
