Joanne Frances (Might) Groom

Age 76, of Minerva, went home Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born Dec. 23, 1940 in Canton. The daughter of John and Helen (Reem) Might. She was married to and preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Melford A. Groom who died in 2008.  She was a homemaker and attended the Bayard United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Minerva Eagles Aerie #2199.

She is survived by 7 children; Robin (Ryan) McGrath of Minerva, Sivlie (Cathy) Groom of Salem, Leona Groom of TN, Melford (Missy) Groom Jr., of East Rochester, John (Barb) Groom of Canton, Brenda (Jeff) Bowman of TN, Jed (Elaine) Groom of TN, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Joanne had a big, tender heart. She was a wonderful person, mother, and wife. Her family meant the world to her. She was a strong person and the glue that kept the family together. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Funeral services will be Sat. at 11:00 am in the Bayard United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Burial will be in Moultrie Chapel Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 5-8 pm at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva. Memorial contributions may be made c/o the Joanne Groom Fund at the Minerva Area Credit Union.
