Jeanette M. Smith

Age 84, of Minerva, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A devoted mother, grandma, and Nana, Jeanette was born on August 28, 1942, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Jack and Gladys (Willis) Shirley. She worked for Minerva Banking for 25 years and for Grinders Above and Beyond in Minerva for 25 years. She graduated from Minerva High School in 1960 and the Canton Beauty College. She is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church, where she was on the home department for many years.

Most of all, Jeanette cherished spending time with her family. Whether it was being her grandchildren’s biggest fan at their events, playing cards on Wednesdays at the Minerva Senior Center, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, or having conversations on the back patio while watching for cardinals, her warmth was felt by everyone she interacted with.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold Smith, whom she married on June 24, 1962, two sons, Kevin Smith of Minerva, Kurt (Elizabeth) Smith of Columbus, and five grandchildren; Ryan (Jessica) Smith of Canton, Olivia Smith of Ypsilanti, MI, Alexyss (Noah) Raber of Upper Arlington, Austyn Smith of Columbus, and Ian Smith of Columbus.
