Rev. James Rice

Age 88, of East Rochester, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in Aultman Alliance Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1935 in Wheeling, WV to Lawrence and Sally (Rogers) Rice.  He retired from the Empire United Methodist Church and served several churches in his 27 year career.  He graduated from Wheeling High School in 1953 and the Garret Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1976.  He is a member of the Bayard Community Church and would still fill the pulpit when called at several local churches.  He loved performing magic for children's services.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Loretta (Drewett) Rice whom he married May 30, 1957. Son, James (Donna) Rice Jr. of Elyria, 2 sisters, Barbara (David) Kovalski of Wheeling, Charlene Seum of Moundsville, brother, Raymond (Donna) Rice of Wheeling, 3 grandchildren, Craig Rice, Larry (Krisy) Rice, Kimberly Rice, 9 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minera with Rev. Mike Bullock officiating.
