James O. Guthrie, age 91, of Carrollton died Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the Carroll Healthcare Center. He was born Aug. 31, 1920 in Carroll County to John and Alveda (Lang) Guthrie. He retired from Monarch Products in Minerva where he worked for over 25 years. He is a 1938 graduate of Augusta High School, and is a US Army Air Corp. Veteran of WWII where he retired from the Army Reserves as a Major. He is a member of the Bayard United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed flying, having been a pilot for many years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel (Walker) Guthrie who died in 2006; sister, Jane Arndt and 4 brothers, Donald, Frank, John and Ray Guthrie. He is survived by a son, Gerald (Anna) Guthrie; 2 brothers, Harry (Wilma) Guthrie of Minerva and Thomas Guthrie of FL; 2 grandchildren, Scott Guthrie of Columbus and Beth (Peter) Husted of Canton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 noon in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Pastor Mike Doak officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours will be two hours prior to services from 10 am to 12 noon Thursday at the funeral home.
