Jack E. Schaefer

Age 89, of Minerva, died Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Alliance Community Hospital. He was born May 3, 1927 in Minerva to Philip and Thelma (Cupples) Schaefer. He worked for Sears for 27 years, starting as a service manager and retiring as regional manager for northern Ohio.  He was also a District Manager for Certified Oil Company and taught for the US Navy Reserves.  He graduated from Minerva High School. He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church, and a 64 year member of Augusta Lodge #504 F&AM and Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton.  He served as the organist for Tubal Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite for many years and received the Meritorious Service Award for his many years of dedication.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Belle (Rohrer) Schaefer, whom he married June 25, 1955; 2 sons, Jack (JoAnn) Schaeffer of North Canton, Jeffrey (Sharon) Schaefer of Minerva; a sister, Judy Vesco of Zanesville; 2 brothers, Glenn (Shirley) Schaefer of Green, Lee (Ruth) Schaefer of SC; a grandson, Jeremy (Adriane) Schaefer. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Dick, Duane and Val Schaefer, 2 grandsons, Jamie and Heath.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Keith Weiebe officiating. Burial will be at the Liberty Cemetery in Minerva. Calling hours will be Sunday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home with Masonic services at 5:45 pm on Sunday.
