Harry G. Guthrie, Age 88, of Minerva, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 15, 2016 in Aultman Compassionate Care in Canton. He was born May 10, 1928 to John and Alvada (Lang) Guthrie. He graduated from Augusta High school in 1947. He was a Welder at American Steel in Alliance until his retirement at the age of 66. He also worked for B&W Rush Street Plant in Alliance for 16 years, Retired welding inspector for GM in Hudson for 21 years, and was a TV repairman for Ed Hart TV and Electronic Services in Minerva. He served in US Army as a mechanic and driver during the Korean War where he was stationed in Japan and Korea. He was a member of the Minerva American Legion #357. He was a member of the New Franklin United Methodist church where he had been a trustee. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and baking cookies.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Robbins) Guthrie, whom he would have celebrated 66 years together on September 2nd; a daughter, Gwen (Rudy) Rudacille of Salem; 3 sisters-in-law, Jenny Locke of Lansing, MI, Marge Wolfe of Hartville, Ida (Hugo) Schicano ; a brother Tom Guthrie of Carrollton; 3 grandchildren, Russell, Roger and Katlyn and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by a son, Leslie Guthrie; a sister, Jane Arndt and 5 brothers, Donald, James, Frank, John and Ray Guthrie.
Funeral services will be 12 noon on Monday in the New Franklin United Methodist Church with Rev. Elaine Weaver officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be in the Highland Memorial Park in Beloit. Calling hours will be Sunday 2-4 pm at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva. Memorial contributions may be made to Aultman Compassionate Care or the New Franklin United Methodist Church.
