Harris "Jake" Tarbet, Jr., age 86, of Minerva, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 in Aultman's Compassionate Care. He was born March 28, 1927 in Bayard to Harris and Philbaretta "Peg" (Adams) Tarbet, Sr. He started his career at Liber's Meats in Alliance, then spent several years at Denny's Market in Minerva and retired as an Asst. Manager at Kishman's IGA in Minerva. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1946 and was elected to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1998. He is a member of the Minerva First Presbyterian Church where he was a former Elder and Deacon. He is a US Navy Veteran of WWII, past commander of VFW post #4120 in Minerva where he had also been a past quartermaster and currently the post surgeon. He was a member of the Minerva Village Council from 2000-2003 and former member of the park board, member of the Eagles Aerie #2199, past member of the Minerva Community Assoc. and coached little league baseball for many years. He was honored with the Minerva Man of the Year award in 1997.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (Gray) Tarbet who died June 20, 2005 and a brother, Gerald Tarbet.

He is survived by a daughter, Wendy Tarbet of Minerva; a son Tim (Nancy) Tarbet of Minerva, 2 granddaughters, Lesley (David) Perberg of Solon, Tiffany (David) Rogers of Louisville; 4 great grandchildren, Grace, Alex, Cohen and Dawsen.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel at East Lawn Cemetery in Minerva with Rev. Ben George officiating. Burial will be with full military honors.
