Harley W. Hillyer
Age 76, of Minerva, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Alliance Community Hospital following a long period of declining health. He was born February 28, 1940 in Lynchburg, to Floyd (Connie) and Sarah (Waugh) Hillyer and graduated from Augusta High School in 1958. He was a well respected insurance agent celebrating 50s years with Bankers Life & Casualty then became an independent agent for several companies. He was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where he served as usher, and member of the trustee board, serving as the treasurer for many years. He was a 50 year member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge #501 F&AM.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Clayton) Hillyer whom he married June 22, 1968; 3 children, Patricia (George) Coury of Roanoke, VA, Jeffrey (Kim) Hillyer of Andover Kansas, Amy (Charles) Tucker of Minerva; 2 sisters, Betty Hassler and Barbara Underwood of Kensington; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice (Crawford) Hillyer and a brother, Wilbert "Dutch" Hillyer.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. John Carpenter, Rev. Tom Crawford and Rev. Fredrick Bays officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 6 to 9 pm at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 5:30 pm.
