Gilbert "Gib" Marteney
Age 93 of Kidron died Sat. Dec. 10, 2011 in his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1918 in Malvern to Oscar and Nealie (Wagner) Marteney. He was a machinist having worked for the Timken Co., B&H Machine in Minerva and retired from Good Roads in Minerva. He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church. A WWII US Army Air Corp. Veteran, member of the American Legion Post #357 in Minerva, VFW Post #4120 in Minerva and the Minerva AARP.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle (Suder) Marteney whom he married April 5, 1945, daughter; Latricia Haynam of Kidron, son; Terry (Cathy) Marteney of Kalkaska, MI, brother; Perry Marteney of Minerva, 5 grandchildren; Kendra (John) Alexander of Minerva, Janine (Chad) Madison of Minerva, Jason (Megan) Marteney of MI, Phillip (Dani) Marteney of MI, and Amanda Marteney of MI, 2 stepgrandsons; Patrick Miller and Greg (Lorraine) Dowmont both of MI, 5 great grandchildren; Bellamy and Michael Alexander, Jaelyn Madison, and Brendan and Ruby Marteney, a step great grandson; Elliott Dowmont. He is preceded in death by a son, Gilbert K. Marteney, and 8 brothers and sisters; Trecy Thompson, Mamie Kidder, Neta Hoopes, and infant sister, Clifford, French, Sherman and Tom Marteney.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 pm in the Minerva First Christian Church with Mr. Tom Ledford and Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the chapel in the Minerva First Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Wayne County or the Wounded Warrior Project.
