Geraldine "Gerry" L. Fry
Age 92, of Minerva, passed away Wed., Feb. 21, 2018 in St. Luke's Lutheran Community in Minerva. She was born and raised in Canton and graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1943, moving to Minerva when she married in 1945.
She was a member of the Minerva First Christian Church. Gerry was an avid golfer and held a Sr. Women's Scramble for women 50 years and older for over 20 years at Great Trail golf course. She enjoyed oil painting, traveling, reading and having family and friend get-togethers. She enjoyed playing cards with her longtime friends and she played often. Gerry was a very active lady over the years and chaired many organizations. She was a Charter Life member and past president of the Minerva Area Historical Society, member and past regent of the Great Trail DAR, member and past president of the Minerva Garden Club, life member and past president of the Minerva Junior Women's Club, member of the Minerva Chamber of Commerce, life member of the Great Trail Golf Course and a member of the Minerva Senior Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Romain "Bud" Fry who owned Lincoln Way Furniture for 50 years, was an owner of Great Trail Golf course and Chairman of the Board of Consumers National Bank. Bud and Gerry were a devoted and happily married couple for 54 years. Also preceded in death by her mother Olive Gipe and step-father Lawrence Gipe, her father Paul Hillman, Sr., son Gary Fry, daughter-in-law Beverly Fry and 2 grandsons Craig and Tracy Fry. She is survived by a daughter Laurie (Walt) McClellan, 2 sons, Steven (Cathy) Fry, Richard Fry and daughter-in-law Linda Fry all of Minerva. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren; Leisa (Matt) Lindsay, Cristin (Arin) Rettig, Kelli (Jeff) Betler, Darci Needham, Sherry (Maria Shinn) Fry, April (Dave) Jamerson, Ryan (Marika) Fry, Chad (Maggie) Linkous and Mitch (Katie) Shick, 20 great grandchildren Shane and Garrett Lindsay, Grasyn, Ivey and Layne Rettig, Brett, Elijah, Trey and Mia Jamerson, Erik, Rachel and Sarah Fry, Kourtney Groholy, Amee Glasser, Jeena Shingleton, Crue Bingham, Matthew and Caroline Shinn, Keegan and Ragan Fry and 3 great-great grandchildren and her closest friend of many years Mary Jo Hardman.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 am in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home with Dave Haught and Larry Karlen officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 6-8 pm at the funeral home with DAR services at 5:45 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Great Trail Chapter of the DAR, Minerva Area Historical Society or St. Luke's Foundation.
