Gary "Butch" Nigro, age 68, of Minerva, died Wed., Oct. 31, 2012 in Aultman Hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1944 in Canton to the late James and Irene (Garbett) Nigro. He retired in 1996 from Minerva Local Schools where he taught in the high school for 33 years and was the golf coach for 17 years. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1962, received his Bachelor's in Education from Bowling Green and his Master's in Education from Ashland University. He is a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Minerva, the Minerva Local Education Assoc, National Education Association and was inducted into the Minerva Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. An avid sports fan for many years, he followed the Dallas Cowboys and Mount Union Raiders and loved riding his Harley Davidson.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie (Stratton) Nigro whom he married March 15, 1963; daughter, Tracie Nigro of Minerva; 2 sons, Gary (Megan) Nigro II of Louisville and Chad (Misty) Nigro of Naples, FL; sister, Freda Speakman of Minerva; 8 grandchildren, Torie, Lucas, Cole, Elisa, Hayden, Audrey, Alexis and Camden and his favorite pet dogs, Sophie and Maggie.
He is preceded in death by son-in-law, Ray Oyer and brother-in-law, Kenny Speakman.
Following cremation, a Mass of the Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 am in St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Minerva with Fr. Victor Cinson as celebrant. Calling hours will be Monday 5-7 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home.
