Gary L. Martz, Age 68, of Canton, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 after an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1947 in Canton to Ambrose and Lucy (Thouvenin) Martz. He was self employed in oil and gas production. He is a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, an Eagle Scout and was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart. He is an avid race car enthusiast, racer and member of the Sports Car Club of America. He loved the outdoors, camping, baseball, football and his family pets.
He is survived by his wife, Tanya (Tataru) Martz whom he married Sept. 15, 1972; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Darlene "Dessie" Martz of Canton; mother-in-law, Colleen Tataru of East Canton; brother and sister-in-law, John and Colleen Tataru of Kirkland; 3 nieces, Caitlin, Callie and Chelsi, 3 nephews, Gabriel, Robert (Lisa) and Matt, 5 great nieces and nephews, Phoenix, Achillies, Robert, Ethan and Chloie and his good racing friends, with a special thanks to his crew, Matt, Norm, Jerry and his second brother, Sam.
Following cremation, full military honors will be held Sat. Sept. 19th at 5:00 pm in the Carriage Hill Club House in Canton followed by a memorial service with Rev. Tim officiating. Friends may visit with the family following services from 5-8 pm. The family would like to especially recognize Dr. Ferdinando Cortese and his staff for their wonderful loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
