Gail "Vandy" Vandegrift

age 80, of Minerva passed away Monday May 16 ^th with his loving family by his side.

Gail was born April 13, 1942 and had been "Making America Great Again" since that day. He was the son of Earl and Lorena (Summer) Vandegrift.

He was a 1960 graduate of Minerva High School, Track Star, Natural Born Leader, Original Owner of Lions Den Sports Shop, Founder and Owner of Vandy's Steak N Hoagies in Sarasota, Florida, Long time Minerva Athletic and Booster Club Supporter, Member of the Lions Club, Co-Founder of the Lost French Gold Festival, Hunter and Fisherman, Avid Golfer, Artisan Wood Crafter and Proud Patriotic Conservative.

He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Sandra (Rue) on September 1, 1962. They would be celebrating their 60 ^th wedding anniversary this year. They built a wonderful life together, always surrounded by Gail's proudest accomplishment, his family. Gail leaves behind his loving family to carry on his legacy, his two daughters, Bonnie (Bill) Eyer and Shari (Lewie) Kuhn; 5 grandchildren, Lauren (Matt) Wackerly, Alex Whiteleather, Kaitlyn (Derrick) Ream, Andre Whiteleather and Billy (Bre) Eyer; his most recent pride and joy were his four great grandchildren; Ripp & Finn Wackerly and Rowan & River Ream. He is also survived by his four brothers; Leroy (Rosemary), Darrell (Joanne), Nevin (Kathy) and Ronald (Cheryl). As well as many special friends, breakfast buddies and devoted cat, Newt.

Through all his many illnesses, he never lost his sense of humor and was a fighter until the end. He will be missed! As Gail always said, "Be the Best You Can Be".

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 5:30 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home with Rev. Kirt Henman.

In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Grace Chapel (22797 Ellsworth Ave. Minerva) in Memory of Gail as he had a vision and plan for trees to be planted at the new church building.
