Floyd F. Speelman
On Sept., 27, 2014, Floyd F. Speelman, age 86, of Minerva, with loving friends and family at his side, was called home to be with his Savior and his wife of 66 years, Hazel, whom he had lost in death just seven weeks prior. He was born April 17, 1928 in New Lexington to John and Nellie (Wilson) Speelman. Floyd worked for Kishman's IGA in Minerva for 25 years and later had owned and operated Floyd's Grocery Store in Minerva as well as Aunt Mabel's Restaurant in East Rochester. He was a long time member of the Great Trail Church of God where he and Hazel enjoyed the ministry of youth leadership, and was also instrumental in the organization and spiritual leadership of the New Life Christian Center in Waynesburg. He was a member of Gideon's International for many years, delivering Bibles to children and adults with the mission to spread the gospel of Christ. He was a US Navy Veteran and former volunteer for the Minerva Fire Dept. and was known as "Smoky".
He is preceded in death by his wife, Hazel (Ulman) Speelman who died Aug. 9, 2014, son, Bruce Speelman, granddaughter, Jaime Thomas, sister, Doris Baker, brothers, Albert, Clyde, Robert, John, James and Harold "Shorty" Speelman. He is survived by 4 daughters, Linda (Tom) Rankin of Hartville, Theresa (Brian) Linder of Minerva, Janice (Frank) Louive of Minerva and Lori (John) Collins of Dennison, sister, Faith Moorehead of Zanesville, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:00 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Rev. Stan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be two hours prior to services from 1-3 pm at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Tuscarawas/Carroll County or the Gideon's International. The family would like to express a thank you to the Community Hospice for their wonderful care and support and also Floyd and Hazel's special caregivers, Judy Curry, June Toalston, Julie King, Deana McNeal and Renda Keen who have provided loving care throughout the last two years.
