Erla Belle Courtheyn

Age 96 passed away November 22, 2017 at Aultman Compassionate Care. She was born May 30, 1921 in Augusta, Ohio to Embert and Lilly (Hawkins) Leatherberry. In 1938 she graduated as Valedictorian from Augusta High School.  She worked at the Agricultural Adjustment Administration of Carrollton during WWII.  She was a life-long member of the Augusta Christian Church where she served as deaconess and treasurer for 15 years. Erla was an avid reader, traveler, and enjoyed sports.

At age 24, on July 14, 1945 she married Ernest Courtheyn.  They had three boys.  She was a devoted wife and mother, and served as Cub Scout Den Mother for her boys.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Courtheyn of 66 years, two sisters, Bernice Ebner, Josephine Iden, four brothers, Wilbur, Paul, Lloyd and Victor Leatherberry. She is survived by three sons, Terry (Inez) Courtheyn of San Antonio, TX, Donald (Doreen) Courtheyn of Deland, FL, Dennis (Victoria) Courtheyn of Canal Fulton, four grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Augusta Christian Church, 8147 Andora Rd., Augusta,Ohio with Rev. Gerald Denny officiating.  Calling hours will be 1-2:30 pm followed by a memorial service at the church. Interment will immediately follow at the Augusta cemetery.
