Elmer B. Sommers
Age 86, of Homeworth, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, 2012 at Altercare of Alliance. He was born July 10, 1926 in Hartville, OH to the late Benjamin M. and Savilla (Miller) Sommers. He grew up in Hartville and lived most of his life in the Minerva area, having lived in Homeworth the last 6 years. He enjoyed carpentry work, which eventually led to the development of the Scenic View Allotment in Minerva. He had lots of friends and always had a kind heart in wanting to help out wherever he saw a need. He loved the Lord and often shared his testimony with others, touching many lives and telling what the Lord had done for him. He was a lover of song and enjoyed singing and listening to others sing.
He is survived by his loving wife, of almost 66 years, Delilah (Zook) Sommers of Homeworth; three sons, Marvin (Rachel) Sommers of Livingston, CA, Elmer Jr. (Roselette) Sommers of Homeworth, Paul (Annette) Sommers of Orrville; four daughters, Carolyn (Everette) Hayes of Louisville, OH, Rosemary (Larry) Koehn of Alliance, Pauline (Mark) Jantz of Atwater, CA, Rhoda (Floyd) Jantz of Livingston, CA; 25 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; three brothers, Simon (Fannie) Sommers of Unionton, OH, Andy Sommers of Massillon, Melvin (Alice) Sommers of Hartville; a sister, Amanda (Menno) Stauffer of Fort Wayne, IN.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, 2 brothers; a sister; and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Sunday in the Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church on Bandy Rd. in Homeworth. Calling hours will be Saturday form 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
