Eleanor L. Douglass

Age 85, of Newcomerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021. She was born Sept. 6, 1935 in Canton to George and Helen (Hardie) Young.

Eleanor married Robert Douglass in Fort Lauderdale on March 13, 1987 and spent many years traveling and living full and happy lives. Robert called her his "little angel". Eleanor graduated from Minerva High School in 1953. After graduation, she was hired by the M. Conley Company. In 1968, Eleanor purchased a hardware store from her ailing father, Young's Feed and Supply was then located in Canton.  The store was moved in 1978 to Carrollton and became Benedict Hardware, and then became Douglass Hardware in 1987.  The moved the store to Pleasant city in 1992 and then to Newcomerstown in 1998 before she retired.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Douglass in 2009 and a sister, Evelyn Catlett.  She is survived by five children, Rick (Tammy) Benedict of Gahanna, Debra LeBeau of Carrollton, Dan (Wayne Sieu) Benedict of Seattle, WA, Tom (Wilma) Benedict of Doylestown, Kevin (Helen) Benedict of Newcomerstown, Susan (Woody) Marshal of FL; 3 sisters, Elaine VanPelt of SC, Ellen Harsh of VA, Darletta Travis of Canton; 16 grandchildren, Anthony, Maria, Andrew, Mathew, Katie, Sarah, Laura, Jennifer, Rachel, Bryan, Sheena, Nathanial, Brandie, Jacob, Sylvia and Erin; 10 great grandchildren, Jesse, Adrianne, Aireona, Layla, Lucas, Jasper, Hunter and Grace, Grayson, Elianna and Jacob.

Private family services will be held at the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Chaplain Larry Karlen officiating.  Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
