Obituary

E. David Hank

Age 68 of Malvern, died Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was born Jan. 18, 1949 in Canton to the late Emil and Helen (Myers) Hank. He retired from American Road Machinery in Minerva where he was President and co-owner. He graduated from St. Edward High School in Malvern and received a Bachelor's in English from Walsh University.  He began his career at the Minerva Leader in Minerva and then became the Editor for the newspaper in Rittman before joining the family business at American Road Machinery, Inc. in Minerva, Oh. He is a member of the St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral in Canton where he is a member of the Carpathian Men's Club.  He was very active in the Minerva Chamber of Commerce where he had served as President and on several committees. William Shakespeare said, "Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them." He was a lover of art and jazz and visited the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada every year. David was a thoughtful, funny friend to all who would answer to "Duke" after Duke Ellington or "Scoop" because of his love for local community news. Celebration is the best way to describe his life. He loved God, family, friends, jazz, music, literature and theater. His laughter was contagious, he was very thoughtful and sensitive. People loved Dave because Dave loved people.

He is survived by sister, Janice (Lois Hirshberg) Hank of Marstons Mills, MA, brother-in-law, Raymond Valentine of Minerva, niece, Megan Valentine of Westerville, nephew, Matthew (Michelle) Valentine of Green, 4 great nieces and nephews, Alexandria, Cameron, Sebastian and Emilia Valentine. He is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Ellen Hank and Sherry Valentine.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 am in the St. George Romanian Catholic Cathedral in Canton with the Very Rev. Ovidiu Marginean officiating. Calling hours will be held Wednesday 5:30 to 7:00 pm in the Cathedral with a Saracusta Service at 6:45 pm.
