Duane L. Smith age 90, of Minerva, died Wed., Sept. 12, 2012 in Minerva. He was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Moultrie, OH to George Walter and Velma May (Pariso) Smith. He had worked for TRW in Minerva and retired from the St. Petersburg Times in Florida. He graduated from Minerva High School in 1940 and was a US Army Veteran, where he received a Purple Heart in WWII. He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church and the Minerva American Legion Post #357.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Lee (Croop) Smith whom he married March 12, 1946; son, William (Patty) Smith of Alliance; daughter-in-law, Norma Jean (Cooper) Smith; brother, Delmar (Sarah) Smith of Minerva; Sister-in-law, Norma Jean (Gross) Smith; 10 grandchildren, Bonny K. (Dave) Ryniak, Jerry A. Aeling, Meg (Jeff) Mattern, Tammy L. Gernhardt, Kenny Gernhardt, Bryan D. (Tricia) Smith, Tara L. (Jeremy) Northam, Misty L. Basil, Michael J. (Suzy) Smith, Shanan C. (Chris) Smith and 26 great grandchildren, James, Tiffany, Skyler, Anthony, Zach, Alex, Brooke, Danny, Joshua, Daniel, Jeremiah, Benjamin, David, Noah, Sarah, Rebecca, Brittany, Mark, Taylor, Dominic, D.J., Joshua, Nathan, Tyler, Ashleigh and J.D.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gernhardt; son, James Edward Smith; and a brother Harold Delvin Smith.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 pm in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva with Mr. Ralph Norman officiating. Burial with full military services will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
